is fast approaching. This year’s competition takes place, as every year, in early May. Loreen’s victory secured Sweden’s hosting of the event. However, before artists from all over Europe (and Australia) arrive in Malmo, the participants travel around European cities with concerts.
Experts, fans and bookmakers are closely monitoring the situation. The latter have just updated the potential winner. So far it has been quite crazy Croatia. It was replaced by equally crazy Switzerland.
Eurovision 2024. Change in leadership
In recent weeks, Croatia has been the leader in the bookmakers’ table on the official Eurovision website. Although bookmakers are not always right, their quotes quite often give an idea of what is happening behind the scenes of the competition. In recent years, they have identified the winner flawlessly, so the sudden change in this position gives food for thought.
Croatia gave way to Switzerland. Nemo and his “The Code” already have 22 percent. chances of winning, they outperformed Croatian Baby Lasagna from “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” by 7%. This year, both countries chose the “risky madness” option: Croatia followed last year’s path of Finland and its “Cha cha cha”, Switzerland proposes something between pop, rap and… opera. Anyway, listen for yourself, because it rocks quite decently – if Nemo in Malmo manages to sing these sky-high notes cleanly, he may actually take a very high place.
Although the competition will only take place in a month and a lot can still change, these two countries can already be counted among the favorites. They are followed by Italy (12%), Ukraine and the Netherlands (9% each). But these are “only” bookmakers’ quotes. For now, fans have a slightly different opinion. They still give Croatia the lead in the online poll, in which over 90,000 votes from all over Europe have already been cast. Italy is in second place, and Switzerland is in third place. And where is the place for Poland and Luna?
Eurovision 2024. Luna talks about bookmakers’ quotes
with “The Tower” will represent Poland in Malmo, meanwhile the singer is on tour around Europe and will also perform the Eurovision song at subsequent performances. In an interview with Marcin Wolniak from Polish Radio London, she mentioned that her song was very warmly received by listeners:
I’m very surprised that everyone knows the lyrics to the song. It’s a big surprise because everyone sings with me. People are already reacting so well, they are singing “The Tower” with me, they are having fun – she said excitedly.
There was also a question about bookmakers’ quotes. They place Poland in a distant, 29th position. Viewers are similarly poor at predicting. This is not a good forecast and may discourage the artist. Luna argues that she doesn’t look at bookmaker quotes:
I’m not worried about it for now. I try to prepare as best as I can for the performance, to give 200 percent, not even 100 percent. Much may still change when rehearsals take place in Malmo and you will be able to see my performance. At this point, we don’t know yet what will appear on this stage, it will be a big surprise – she added in an interview with Marcin Wolniak.
And indeed, the ratings can change a few days before the competition itself, right after the artists have undergone their stage rehearsals. Although the entire performances are not shown publicly, parts of them are later posted on social media, where they are broken down into parts by Eurovision experts. Their opinion may mean to be or not to be for the artist. How will Luna fare in the trials? We’ll see at the end of April, in the meantime, when asked about her assessment of the competition, our representative herself said that she supports Switzerland.
