On April 4, we learned about the death of Stanisława Ryster. The icon of Polish television was the host of “The Great Game” for over 30 years. She gave her whole heart to the game show – she wanted to provide viewers with a format that would be a reason to be proud. It was Ryster who persuaded the participants to appear in front of the cameras in jackets rather than sweaters and shirts. She was also the one who won the increase in the main prize in the game show from the head of Polish Television and opposed some of the ideas of the program’s producers. The audience was impressed not only by her composure and class, but also by her sense of humor, which the presenter could never deny.
They took “The Big Game” off the air, but they forgot to tell Ryster about it: “They did a dirty job to me”
No wonder that one day when she found out in the newspapers that “The Great Game” had been removed from the screen, she was outraged. “No one said: ‘That’s our decision’. And I fully deserved it, both with awards and the title of TV star. They had no problems with me, there were no comments,” she recalled in an interview with Wysokie Obcasy.
The presenter had a grudge against TVP’s decision-makers for not informing her about the format’s resignation. Ryster found out about it while on vacation. “They did a dirty job to me because they kept it a secret until the last minute that they were taking the Great Game off the air. I found out about it from the morning press. It was the height of rudeness,” commented Stanisława Ryster in an interview with “Fakt”. The justification for the decision to abandon the format was apparently falling viewership.
“Apparently, when the return of “The Big Game” was considered, it was stated that the program should have, and I quote, ‘more energy’,” the presenter explained. After the game show was taken off the air, Telewizja Polska offered the presenter a job on “Familiada” and “I love you Poland”. However, Ryster did not accept any of them.
