What to do with the lawn after winter? Snow, frost, ice and thaw – all this affects the condition of the garden. That’s why every gardener, as soon as the cold months pass, starts caring for the lawn. Many of them started their first activities in March, but there is still plenty of work to do in April. What to do with the lawn after winter? We give you a hint.
What to do with your lawn after winter?
First of all, the lawn should be cleaned up after winter. This includes raking leaves and dry blades as well as getting rid of molehills. A scarifier will help us in the first step, and in the second step – well, a shovel or a spade. Rolling the lawn will allow you to level it by pressing on the fragments that have moved slightly due to the action of water. In spring, it is also worth aerating the lawn, using special devices called aerators. These are rollers with spikes that penetrate several centimeters into the ground, loosening its structure, allowing for aeration and facilitating the penetration of nutrients to the roots.
What to do with the lawn after winter? If we expect beautiful, green grass throughout the season, it is worth sowing it in spring, if we notice any losses, and fertilizing it. Many gardeners also start regular mowing in April. It is recommended to mow the grass to a height of about four centimeters, which will stimulate it to grow. It will also be more resistant to mechanical damage, e.g. when walking on it.

Lawn after winter – watch out for intruders
In April, the vegetation comes to life. While grass and flowers are most welcome, weeds and moss also appear among the blades. These make the lawn look less neat, holes appear, and it is additionally weakened because the “intruders” negatively affect the roots and impair access to nutrients. You can fight them manually or by spraying. However, you should be careful to use them topically – they also affect the grass.
After winter, depending on the weather, you can start watering the lawn. If it’s dry and sunny outside, it’s worth doing it regularly. If we take care of it in spring, in summer we will enjoy beautiful, single-colored grass without holes and resistant to all “discomforts”.
