Talking about money is probably one of the most difficult topics that is often discussed during family meetings. When your loved ones gather at the Christmas table, it seems to be the perfect opportunity to stand up for yourself and talk about the family property. And although this often turns into heated discussions, many families still practice it regardless of the consequences.

Family conversations have no boundaries. This time it was about wealth

“Holidays, holidays and after the holidays. There were a lot of preparations, and the time flew by practically in the blink of an eye. As usual, the whole family came to visit my parents. There were lots of smiles, friendly conversations and warm looks. We also reminisced about old times and talked about what’s ahead of us. And since the topic finally turned to money, I knew that if someone mentioned property, the discussion would gain momentum.

I didn’t have to wait long for the situation to develop. When my brother-in-law spoke, I froze. He directly asked his parents-in-law and my parents if there was a chance to give them the plot of land next to the forest because they would like to build a house. We all set our eyes. No one expected him to ask it this way. Of course, everyone would like their parents to leave the land to them, especially since everyone needs money. We are four siblings, but I would never have thought that it would be my brother-in-law who would start the conversation about property. What happened next, I don’t even want to say. I regret that I witnessed such an embarrassing situation, and I am describing this situation only to show that it is not worth striving for something that is simply not ours.”
