Today, pork chop is the undoubted king of the traditional Sunday dinner. Accompanied by boiled potatoes (preferably with butter and dill) and salad, it disappears from the plate in no time. Not everyone remembers, but another dish was once equally popular. How to make rump steak?

Even though the period of the Polish People’s Republic was, to put it mildly, not the easiest, and access to many products was very difficult or even impossible, many people fondly remember the dishes prepared then. Our grandmothers were able to create something out of nothing. Some of the dishes and snacks dominate our tables to this day. An example is cold legs, i.e. jelly with meat. Others, in turn, fell into oblivion. While this is understandable in the case of the exceptionally original ones, the low popularity of rump steak is surprising. Especially since it is more delicious when prepared properly than pork chop. How to make it?

Rump steak is nothing more than a huge piece of properly prepared juicy meat. During the Polish People’s Republic it was extremely popular, much more popular than the pork chop that is loved today. It was mainly made of pork, although the best rump steak is undoubtedly the one made of beef and pork. It is filling, tasty and very simple and relatively quick to prepare. If you don’t have an idea for a hearty, meaty dinner that will surprise your loved ones, buy:

  • 0.5 kilogram of chopped or coarsely ground pork (from the shoulder) or beef and pork,
  • 1 egg,
  • approx. 5 onions,
  • salt,
  • pepper,
  • oil.

Preparing rump steak shouldn’t pose any major problems. The most important issue is the purchase of meat. It must be fresh and of really good quality.

How to make rump steak from the times of the Polish People’s Republic? It’s easy

Rumpsteak is an idea for dinner that you can prepare in just a few minutes. First, chop two into small cubes. Put them in heated oil in a pan and fry them. In the meantime, put the meat into a bowl, add one egg, then add the glazed onion, season with a little pepper and salt and mix thoroughly. Take the prepared meat in your hands and form flattened cutlets. When you’re done, take the rest of the onion, cut it into thin slices and fry it as well. At the same time, start frying the cutlets in the second pan. Wait until they are brown on both sides. Serve with onion, boiled potatoes and mushrooms stewed in butter.. In a slightly modernized version, you can serve it with fries or rice and your favorite salad.
