When taking care of our skin, we often reach for expensive drugs from the drugstore. Not everyone knows that effective, even universal remedies can be found in pharmacies. It turns out that calendula ointment costs about PLN 9, and it works well for many skin ailments. Which ones exactly are we talking about and how to make calendula ointment yourself?

What does calendula cream work for? The hit of the Polish People’s Republic is no longer so popular today

In times past, calendula ointment was very popular and was in every second woman’s cosmetic bag. Today, unfortunately, it has been somewhat forgotten, which is a pity. It will prove useful as a solution to many skin problems. What to use it for?

  • Dry lips and other dry areas. Calendula ointment will moisturize and help maintain the proper hydrolipid barrier. Lips and skin will be less susceptible to cracking and dryness. Apply up to twice a day.
  • Frost protection. On cold days, the ointment can provide a protective, lubricating barrier against the wind.
  • Irritations. Calendula ointment will act as a compress.
  • Acne. The product has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and can be applied directly to skin lesions. Additionally, it will lighten discolorations.
  • Scars and stretch marks. The ointment prevents scars and reduces the visibility of existing lesions. This also applies to stretch marks.
  • Bites. The product will relieve the pain of minor insect bites.

However, remember to perform an allergy test on a small part of the skin before using calendula ointment for the first time.

How to make calendula ointment yourself? It’s simpler than it seems

You can also prepare calendula ointment at home. Heat a cube of goose or pork lard. Add half a cup of dried marigold petals. You can buy them, for example, in a herbal store. Boil the product, stirring constantly. Set the pot aside to cool, then heat it a second time and pour it through a strainer into a closed jar. Store calendula ointment in the refrigerator and use within two weeks.
