“Graphy” from the “old” TVP attacks again. In 18 percent 12 percent was achieved three times

Nothing happened, no one was hurt, but the feeling remains. The website presents the results of a survey commissioned by TVP3 Warszawa among Warsaw residents. Residents of the capital have expressed their opinion on who they will vote for in the upcoming local government elections. Rafał Trzaskowski is naturally leading in the presidential race, but looking at the manipulated chart shown on the TVP website, one may get the impression that his advantage over his rivals is staggering. And this is not entirely consistent with reality.

TVP is manipulating the charts once again

The task was very simple – to present the results of a survey conducted among Warsaw residents. 48 percent of them indicated that they would vote for Rafał Trzaskowski in the local elections. 12 percent will vote for Magdalena Biejat, candidate of Lewica Razem. The remaining candidates have lower ratings, a few percent. However, looking at the graph presented, one may get the impression that not only Trzaskowski’s advantage is astonishing, but also individual percentages are suddenly smaller and do not stick to any scale, except one – the current president wins everything over everyone else.

And so in 48 percent Rafał Trzaskowski’s result was exceeded five and a half times Biejat’s result (12%), which, even with a creative approach to charts, is an art. 18 percent people who are still wondering who to vote for were presented as over 30%. The height of the bar for “I don’t know” answers takes up much more than half of the bar at 48 percent, although if the creator of the chart wanted to preserve human reason and dignity, he should have shortened it significantly. Meanwhile, visualizing this type of chart while maintaining the correct scale is extremely simple for such a small amount of data. For some reason, however, it was decided that no one would notice. And it was a mistake, because another representative of Lewica Razem realized it:

Will the chart also appear in Wednesday’s edition of “19.30”? This remains to be seen. Unfortunately, this would not be the first time that a mainstream news program has shown manipulated charts that suggest a different distribution of responses than the numbers represent. The previous TVP authorities made exceptional contributions in this respect, deliberately modifying the scales of the charts, using convenient time ranges, comparing incomparables and setting the bars to show their own reality.
