Telewizja Polska sued TV Republika. He wants a million zlotys

Telewizja Polska SA in liquidation sued TV Republika. He will demand one million zlotys from the station.

The TVP Information Center announced in a statement that a lawsuit was filed against TV Republika on March 26. This is about the program “Jedziemy”, which was previously hosted by Michał Rachoń on TVP. After the changes in the management of Telewizja Polska in December last year, Rachoń moved the program to TV Republika. According to the authorities, TVP, which is in liquidation, had no right to do so.

TVP is suing TV Republika to refrain from infringing TVP’s copyright to the broadcast “Jedziemy”. He estimates the claims at approximately one million zlotys. He demands payment for a social purpose and also demands an apology.

Since December last year, Rachoń has been not only the host of programs on TV Republika, but also the program director of this channel. He moved the “We’re Going” program to a new place of work with the same title and practically unchanged formula and set design. According to TVP, he violated copyrights belonging to public television.

“On March 26, 2024, Telewizja Polska SA in liquidation, in accordance with previous announcements, filed a lawsuit in the District Court in Warsaw against TV Republika to cease infringement of TVP’s copyright to the broadcast “Jedziemy”, payment of compensation for infringement of TVP’s rights to the broadcast. and due to unfair competition, release of illegally obtained benefits, apology and payment of compensation for a social purpose. The total amount of all claims is estimated at approximately PLN 1,000,000.

Two days earlier, TVP regarding a number of irregularities that were allegedly attributed to Jacek Kurski and other persons who were, at various times, members of the Management Board and the Supervisory Board. “This is the result of ongoing inspection activities carried out in the Company,” we read in the company’s announcement. The announcement noted that Telewizja Polska SA is in liquidation and does not rule out the possibility that we may expect further reports of crimes.
