This place is so scary that even the locals don’t go there. It is said that this island is cursed and its owners died in strange circumstances. Where is?

The Bay of Naples is a region where tourists eagerly go, but there is one place where even locals do not venture. We are talking about the island of Gaiola, located near Naples. Legend has it that it was here that the famous Virgil taught his students. So why hasn’t it become a tourist attraction? All because of the terrifying stories that took place there. According to reports, there are approximately 1,300 bodies of slaves and captives buried on the island.

Gaiola is actually two small towns connected by a bridge. The area is part of a marine reserve. It’s a great place to relax or have a picnic, but no one has dared to set foot on it for years.

The terrifying history of the island begins in the 19th century, when a hermit called the Sorcerer lived there. He disappeared in mysterious circumstances, a the inhabitants believe that he placed a curse on the island. Shortly thereafter, a villa was built on the island, and in 1911, Captain Gaspare Albenga became interested in purchasing it. But when he tried to swim towards it, his ship crashed into the rocks.

The next owner of the island was Hans Braun, whose body was found wrapped in a carpet, and his wife drowned in the sea. Then Gaiola was bought by a German, Otto Grunback, but he also died soon thereafter. Similar situations happened to subsequent owners. Maurice-Yves Sandoz became mentally ill and committed suicide, and Gianpasquale Grappone was sent to prison shortly after the purchase. Today, Gaiola belongs to the authorities of the Campania region, which created an underwater park under it.
