Kulig surprises with a new role. Few people know how difficult its beginnings were. “I came out of total poverty”

Joanna Kulig has been one of the most valued and sought-after Polish artists for years. The turning point in her career was the role of Alicja in “Sponsoring”. In the following years, she appeared in “Cold War”, “Clergy”, “The Spider”, among others. We will soon see her in another production. The actress played Iza in the drama “Kobieta z…”, directed by Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert. The film tells the story of Aniela, born and raised as Andrzej. For more than half of her life, the heroine had to function as a man and hide her gender dysphoria.

Joanna Kulig played the role of Aniela’s transgender partner. As she revealed, she is glad she had this opportunity. Thanks to this, in preparation for the role, she was able to talk to people who create this type of relationships. This way she learned their perspective. – I heard a lot of interesting things that helped me play repressed anger and other difficult, shameful emotions – she admitted. It is worth mentioning that the film “Woman with…” will appear in Polish cinemas on April 5.

It is worth mentioning that Joanna Kulig has also been developing a career in Hollywood for some time. However, few people know that she did not have an easy start. The future actress grew up with her four siblings in the village of Muszynka in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Her father was a folk poet and her mother was a kindergarten cook. Some time ago, Kulig recalled difficult experiences from her childhood. The actress appeared in the “Dzień Dobry TVN” studio to support “Szlachetna Paczka”.

– This is an initiative close to my heart because I received a lot of help as a child. Many people helped me a lot. Being from a small town where I received a lot of such packages, now I appear in Hollywood, which means I came out of total poverty to what I have now – said Kulig. She also emphasized that helping others is very important to her. For this reason, he is still willing to engage in charity work. And I want to teach children the same thing. – When I was a child and had few toys, my creativity developed. I was raised in such a way that “what you have, you will give”. When we show children that we share with others, we teach them goodness. This teaches you about selfishness, Kulig said.
