For believers, the first Holy Communion is an important day in a child’s life. Therefore, after receiving the sacrament, the family often meets to celebrate this moment together. According to tradition, gifts are also given to the child. Some families, after the ceremony in the church, move to a restaurant or a rented hall. And some people simply organize intimate parties for family in their homes.

A reader of the website said that she would prefer to organize such a meeting at home rather than in a local venue. She hoped that this way she would be able to reduce her expenses. She also decided to order catering for the guests, wanting to save herself the burdensome work “in the pots”, we read. Unfortunately, she had to give this up as well. For such a set, one person would have to pay as much as PLN 200. – The expense is that the head is small. I would take 20 sets home, it would cost PLN 4,000. This is how much a communion in a local place can cost – she commented. – In the end, it turned out that we would fly between the kitchen and the living room. We will order cakes and cakes from the confectionery shop. We will prepare all the rest ourselves, she said.

Indeed, organizing communion at home is no fun. If someone wants to cut costs this way, they may be in for a surprise. The daily compared catering offers from various regions of Poland. The price for the dinner set is simply outrageous. If we want to invite e.g. 20 people to our home and offer each of them food, we can expect to spend up to PLN 8,000. Especially since such a meeting usually involves other costs, such as clothing for the child. “We reserve that with a significant increase in the prices of food, energy and gas, the cost of the menu may change” – read a note to one of the offers, quoted by “Fakt”.

First Holy Communion and a gift contribution for a priest

Let’s not forget about contributions. From the beginning of the school year, parents of first communion children attend meetings in schools to prepare eight-year-olds to receive the sacrament. Usually, the dates, costumes, decorations and the amount of contributions are agreed. They are often the subject of disputes. They can be very high, as Mrs. Edyta, the author of the letter sent to our editorial office, discovered. The woman confessed that as a parent – in addition to the photographer, cameraman, flowers, etc. – she also has to provide a gift for the parish priest.
