Buy seeds and sow them in pots today. I give you my word that it will grow until frost

Recently, Patagonian verbena has been gaining popularity and can be found more and more often in gardens. If you sow it at the right time, it will decorate your yard until late autumn. We know which date is best.

Patagonian verbena is also called Argentine verbena. It is distinguished by delicate purple flowers and can reach 1.5 m in height. It has weakly branched and stiff stems, which is an advantage in its case because it does not need support. It is a honey plant, so it attracts butterflies, bees and other pollinating insects. If you take care of it properly, it will bloom for a very long time, until frost.

What conditions does Patagonian verbena like? She is not demanding

Verbena comes from South America and regularly appears in English cuisine. In Poland it is grown as an annual. It looks prettiest in larger groups, where it creates a sea of lilac flowers. It prefers sunny positions and has low soil requirements. The best solution is to plant it in a mixture of peat and sand.

The plant does not like excess water, so the substrate should be drained. It tolerates drought well and is resistant to pests. You can plant it directly in the ground or in pots. It will beautifully decorate a balcony or terrace, but then it is better to choose its smaller varieties: “Little One” and “Lollipop”. They will grow to 50-70 cm in height.

When to sow verbena? The best date is coming soon

Patagonian verbena reproduces by sowing seeds. You can buy them at a garden store or collect them yourself. At the end of October or the beginning of November, the inflorescences should be cut off. The collected seeds should be sown into pots in March, after the frosts have passed. The best date will be the beginning of calendar spring. You can take a risk and do it in February, but you must remember that the plant needs sun to bloom. Verbena takes a long time to emerge and can be capricious. The temperature in the room where the flower is located should be 20-23 degrees Celsius. In mid-May, it can be moved to the ground and planted at 30 x 40 cm spacing. It blooms from July to the end of October.
