The war in Ukraine is still ongoing, and the risk of it spreading to other countries is high. The State Fire Service has prepared an application with marked locations of shelters where we can hide in case of danger, but also in case of dangerous weather phenomena. Where can you find it? We explain.
What does shelter mean? There are three types of shelters in Poland
A shelter is a protective building with a closed structure. Its purpose is to protect people, devices and materials inside against external factors. In Poland, we distinguish three types of shelters. Basic category shelters provide protection against, among others, bombs and missiles, chemical warfare agents and shocks. Type A shelters, i.e. with increased resistance, meet the conditions of basic shelters, but are more solid and protect against a larger shock wave. The last type are hiding places, i.e. non-hermetic buildings with simple installations used to protect people and material goods.
How to check where the shelters are? Now you can do it thanks to the app
In 2023, inspections of shelters were carried out. Its purpose was to check their condition and determine which ones would be available to residents in the event of an accident. It turned out that we have 9,000 shelters in our country. How to find those in our area?

A map of the shelters is available on the website. Just enter the address and the results will be shown on the map. Shelters are marked in redthe hiding place is marked in blue, and the emergency shelter points, i.e. places where we can hide, e.g. from a storm, are green.
