Dr. Dre has suffered three strokes. “It’s a miracle that I’m alive”

Dr. Dre said he suffered three strokes in January 2021 while he was hospitalized for a brain aneurysm.

– It’s just something you can’t control, and in those two weeks I had three strokes – the rapper and producer in an interview with James Corden. “I got up and started talking about my day and I thought I could just lie down and take a nap,” he recalled on “This Life of Mine with James Corden,” adding that his son’s friend, who was with him at the time, said they had to go to hospital.

Dr. Dre: The doctors said I was very lucky

– They took me to intensive care – Dr. Dre continued, adding that doctors described his condition as serious and it’s a miracle that he’s alive. – After a while I lost consciousness. I got her back and lost her again and ended up in the ICU. I was there for two weeks. I hear the doctors come in and say, “You don’t know how lucky you are.”

When asked if doctors told him what could have prevented the aneurysm, the rapper said: No one was able to give me an answer. “I had no idea I had high blood pressure or anything like that,” Dr. Dre told Corden. – I lift weights, I run, I do everything I can to stay healthy – he explained.

The rapper said that such an experience “definitely makes you appreciate the fact that you’re alive, that’s for sure…” – It’s crazy because I know I have no control over it. It’s just something that can happen unexpectedly, he explained.

What is a stroke?

A stroke is the death of part of this organ as a result of stopping the blood supply to the brain tissue. It occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is blocked or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. Strokes can cause brain damage, long-term disability and death.

Fast response is important. Brain cells begin to die as early as four minutes after a stroke occurs, but in many patients the effects of a stroke can be reversed or significantly reduced if treatment is started no later than three hours after the stroke begins.

What is an aneurysm?

A brain aneurysm is a disease of the arteries in the brain. There is no symptomatic therapy, its presence may be indicated by symptoms such as: severe headaches, vision problems or dizziness, but often does not cause any symptoms until it bursts.

“It happens that the first bleeding from an aneurysm is not significant, and the symptoms disappear after a short time. Typically, it is accompanied by a severe headache, photophobia, and a feeling of stiff neck. In such a case, an ambulance should be called as soon as possible, which will take the patient to hospital, because it may occur subsequent bleeding, often more serious than the first and increasing the risk of death” – c on the Medycyna Practical website. While waiting for an ambulance, it is important to lie down and not engage in physical activity.

Scientists have not yet found a relationship between why some people develop aneurysms and not others, although the causes include atherosclerosis, congenital abnormalities of the arterial wall structure, and hereditary factors. The treatment is surgical in nature.
