Korean rock has its roots in American rock, because it was the Americans who brought this genre to Korea. This happened thanks to American soldiers fighting in the Korean War. Near American military bases, local musicians had the opportunity to learn American rock music and perform it on stage for American soldiers. Shin Jung-hyeon is considered the first South Korean rock guitarist, who made his debut on stage at an American military base in 1957. The guitarist is called the “godfather of rock” in South Korea.
Currently, there are many K-rock bands on the music market. One such group is Day6. The band belongs to the JYP Entertainment label and currently consists of four members: Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil, Dowoon. Jae left the group at the end of 2021 and did not extend his contract. In February, the agency announced that the band was recording a music video for a new song, which is scheduled for release in March, but the exact schedule of the band’s comeback is yet to be announced. The new music will be a comeback after a three-year break, which was caused by the need to complete military service. The most popular Day6 songs include “Shoot Me”, “You Were Beautiful”, “Zombie”. Day6 played their concert in Poland in January 2020 as part of the “GRAVITY” tour.

Another band that you can’t ignore is The Rose. The band consists of four talented musicians. The leader of the group is Woosung, who is the main vocalist and guitarist. His amazing voice adds character to the songs he performs. The Rose is famous for their captivating performances, so it’s no wonder they have become one of Korea’s most sought-after groups. They have released a series of critically acclaimed albums that have resonated with fans around the world.
In 2019, three members of the band took a hiatus to fulfill their mandatory Korean military service, while Woosung pursued his solo career. The singer has, for example, a joint song – “Snooze” – with one of the members of the BTS band – Suga, who uses the pseudonym Agust D for his solo activities. The most famous songs of The Rose include “Back To Me”, “Sorry” and “RED”. The Rose has already performed in Poland several times. Today – March 15 – the band’s next concert as part of the “Dawn To Dusk” tour will take place at the Tauron Arena Kraków. The last tickets are still available at livenation.pl
One of the younger K-rock bands is XDINARY HEROES. The six-person group debuted only in December 2021 with the song “Happy Death Day”. As part of their “Break the Brake” world tour, in November last year, they even managed to perform in our country. Their latest album “LIVELOCK” was released in October.
