You often write about the signs of betrayal and how to recognize that a relationship may fall apart. These theories have little to do with the truth. Or to put it another way: they are not useful if you want to believe that everything is fine. I am 54 years old, my husband is 56 years old. It seemed to me that we were a happy couple. Until our world collapsed. One day he came back from work and said that he had fallen in love and that he was leaving. To a 28-year-old woman.

But starting from the beginning… I can’t tell you when things started to go wrong between us. Or did it break at all? It was like always: he came home late in the evening, we ate dinner, watched the news, then a movie, and went to bed. He hugged me at night and told me before I went to sleep that he loved me. Our daughter came to visit us on weekends and he behaved like an exemplary father. I didn’t notice him moving away from me. Not long ago we were planning a holiday together. I really think about it and think about it and nothing out of the ordinary happened. Maybe he actually took more care of himself recently and started going to the gym, but I thought he was doing it for his well-being. Anyway, I thought it was working because he was smiling from ear to ear. Now I know why.

“She still lives with her parents.”

Apparently that’s where they met, the girl worked at the reception. As far as I know, she still lives with her parents. She is only a year older than our daughter. I honestly can’t imagine what they were talking about and what she did to make him go crazy. But maybe it’s better. I’m not asking for details. I’d rather not know.

One day he rented an apartment and moved out. He destroyed our family because of some bullshit. Both my daughter and I are in shock. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. I just can’t understand how a grown man wouldn’t be ashamed of chasing after his daughter’s peers…
