“Dune” declassed. Her domination ended with a movie about a fluffy animal

“Dune” has been in cinemas since the end of February and has been a global hit from the first day of its premiere. However, domination must end sometime and that time has now come. Last weekend belonged not to “Dune 2”, but to… “Kung Fu Panda 4”.

Following the principle that “nothing can last forever”, the short but very intense domination of the hit comes to an end. , but the American market for “” is already merciless. Last weekend, Paul Atreides gave way to Po – the fourth part of the “Kung Fu Panda” animation.

“Kung Fu Panda 4” eats “Dune 2” like Chinese bao in the USA

“Dune 2” has already earned almost $380 million worldwide. This is not her last word – Denis Villeneuve’s production has only just hit the eager Chinese market, but a new hero has already appeared on the horizon. And it is the Dragon Warrior, because we are talking about the fourth part of “Kung Fu Panda”. Last weekend, the animation already earned over $93 million and was the most watched title in the United States (here it reached $59 million). Panda outperformed “Dune” on the American market by as much as 12 million.

The result of “Kung Fu Panda” is close to the sensational results of the best animations from Dreamworks, which bodes well for the film itself. Although Panda is far from the results of Shrek (it could even reach over 100 million dollars in the opening weekend!), 59 million on the American market places the production in the TOP10. As you can see in the charts, in Poland “Kung Fu Panda 4” earned almost $1.5 million in its first weekend. That’s half a million less than the second part of “Dune”.

“Dune 2” is breaking records

Although Denis Villeneuve’s hit was already outclassed last weekend, it still breaks the record. “Duna 2” should beat the financial result of the first part without any major problems. In 2021, Villeneuve’s production grossed over $400 million worldwide. To this result, you need to add the views in 2024 – before the premiere of the second part of the film, many cinemas decided to show the first “Dune” again. The move gave the film an additional nearly 32 million.

According to reports, the second “Dune” cost $190 million. Doubling this result will mean that the film has paid off. Production has already achieved this milestone. Now anything he earns extra is a nice and very welcome bonus.
