The artist was born in 1999 in Jericho, New York into an American Jewish family. On March 5, she played a concert at Torwar in Warsaw, where she interrupted the concert to address the local fans.
– I’m Polish – Beer confessed. – I won’t even try to pronounce the name of the town my great-grandparents came from, but they are from Poland. So it’s really great to be here. I love you all very much and thank you for such a warm welcome. I hope you like the concert, the artist said with a smile to her fans who were excited about the news.
The recording from the concert caused a storm in the comments, where Instagram users argued why Beer is not Polish and cannot feel like one. “She’s not Polish. She’s an American Jew”, “Only Americans have this approach to their roots”, “I’m sorry, but if she doesn’t have Polish citizenship, she’s not Polish”, “Forgive me, but what’s the point of giving yourself a nationality, in which you are not,” say the commenters.

As you can see, Poles felt offended that the singer wanted to emphasize unity with the nationality with which her grandparents were associated. The language and cultural barrier could also have contributed to the misunderstanding of the artist’s intentions. Americans express their origins and nationality slightly differently.
However, there was also a group in the comments defending the singer, who was not bothered by the shortcut. “I love how people in the comments think they know more about her family than she does,” notes one of the artist’s fans. “Reading some of the comments, I wonder if yellow shouldn’t be part of the national colors in our nation,” I write someone else. “If she feels Polish to some extent, she has the right to do so and you shouldn’t judge it,” another person rightly says.
