Alicja Pawlicka is dead. The actress was 90 years old
“It is with great sadness that I received the information about the death of a well-known, popular and distinguished resident of Saska Kępa, Mrs. Alicja Pawlicka-Suzin, a theater, film and television actress. Privately, she was the wife of the popular TV announcer Jan Suzin since 1965. I express my sincere condolences to Mrs. Alicja’s family and loved ones sympathy,” we read in a Facebook post.
“There was a time when we met regularly to hear her stories about pre-war actors with whom she had the opportunity to play at the Polish Theater,” recalls Pawlicka on the Stare Kino website. “She couldn’t say anything bad about her colleagues, and when she thought she said something that could be considered inappropriate, she apologized and withdrew. Her delicacy was endearing,” the editorial team added.
Pawlicka loved mathematics and humanities. They combined their passions thanks to acting
Alicja Pawlicka was born in 1933, and at the age of 22 she graduated from the Acting Department of the State Theater School in Warsaw. In the same year, she made her debut as Hela in the play “Visitation” at the Polish Theater in Warsaw. She collaborated with the theater until 1994. Some sources say that her stage debut took place earlier, and her first role was Berta in “The Germans” by Leon Kruczkowski, directed by Jerzy Rakowiecki, staged at the Nowa Warszawy Theater.
In her work for Stary Kino, Pawlicka emphasized that she loved both the humanities and mathematics. She claimed that she managed to combine both passions thanks to acting. “I thought that mathematics was the queen of sciences, that it taught logical thinking. And it’s the same with acting, which requires drawing logical conclusions,” she emphasized.
Until the end of high school, she hesitated whether to take art history, but acting won again. “Out of at least one hundred and seventy candidates, seventeen were accepted, including seven women, including me. Aleksander Zelwerowicz was among those on the committee,” Pawlicka recalled.
