2024 distributed. The winner of the gala was “Oppenheimer”, which received seven out of thirteen nominations. The ceremony took place without any major controversies or mishaps, although before the event there were bets online that this year’s ceremony would be steeped in politics.
Oscars 2024. Donald Trump criticized the gala
“Anyone who wanted to play a game and drink at the Oscars every time Trump’s name was mentioned from the stage is probably disappointed,” we read in the comments. Oscar night actually focused on nominations and celebrating the great festival of cinema. It was noticeable, however, that many participants of the ceremony wore red pins, symbolically calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
However, the evening without politics was interrupted by Jimmy Kimmel, who suddenly addressed the audience. “I know this isn’t an event about me, I appreciate being here, it’s about all you great actors and actresses and filmmakers, but I have a free minute and I’d like to share with you something I’m proud of,” he began. Then he quoted a fragment of a post published by Donald Trump on the Truth website. “Has there ever been a worse Oscars host than Jimmy Kimmel?” – Kimmel read.
Jimmy Kimmel mocked Donald Trump at the 2024 Oscars
“He started out like an average guy who’s trying too hard to be someone he’ll never be,” but he stopped at some point. “Blah, blah, blah… make America great again” – he concluded with Trump’s campaign slogan and turned to the politician. “Thank you Mr. President, thank you for watching, is your time in prison over?” – Kimmel slammed former US president.
In his entry, Trump emphasized not only his dissatisfaction with Kimmel’s performance, but also with the entire gala. He criticized the Academy, among other things, for “political correctness”. “Chaotic, boring and very unfair,” the former US president summed up the ceremony. “Why don’t those who really deserve Oscars get them?” he added, disappointed.

This is not the first time Trump has expressed such a negative opinion about the Oscars. In 2018, when the politician was still president, he criticized the ceremony and declared that it was the worst in history. Three years later, Trump suggested how the quality of awards shows could be improved. He urged people to “go back 15 years” and to give up “political correctness”.
