Ryan Grantham gained international popularity thanks to his role in the hit Netflix series “Riverdale”. His career was overshadowed by the murder of his mother in 2020. The actor was responsible for his actions in court, and during the trial he admitted to planning another crime.

Ryan Grantham was born on November 30, 1998 in Canada. He made his screen debut at the age of 9 in the film “The Nutcracker Mystery”, and gained experience on the sets of such productions as “Jumper”, “Tornado”, “Goblin” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”. The breakthrough in his career was the role of Jeffrey Augustine in the hit series “Riverdale”, which brought him international popularity and opened the door to his career.

There is no doubt that Grantham would have achieved enormous success in the film industry had it not been for the actions he committed. The drama took place in his family home on March 31, 2020. killed his mother, 64-year-old Barbara Waite, by shooting her in the back of the head while she was playing the piano. After committing the crime, he recorded a video in which he admitted to committing it and then acted as if nothing had happened. He went to a store to buy alcohol, then took drugs and watched television.

The next day, he placed candles around the woman’s body and hung a rosary on the instrument she was lying next to. Then he began to prepare for his next plan, which was to kill Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He packed ammunition, weapons and Molotov cocktails into the car and then set off for the Canadian capital. On the way, however, he realized what he had done and stopped at a police station in Vancouver, where he confessed to the murder. During this time, his sister Lisa discovered the body of her murdered mother.

During the trial, it emerged that Grantham had been struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts for many months before these tragic events. His private notes were also found, in which he wrote about his desire to kill other people. He did not hide the fact that fame had a negative impact on his well-being and mental health.

During the trial, he did not try to blame his illness and consciously admitted to the crimes he was accused of. All the evidence gathered led the Supreme Court in British Columbia, Canada, to find him guilty of second-degree murder, for which he was sentenced at the end of September 2022 to life imprisonment. He will be able to apply for early release only 14 years after the verdict.
