When is Easter? The date is influenced by the full moon
It is a moveable feast, so it may fall at a different time each year. As a rule, however, these holidays are celebrated on March 22 at the earliest and April 25 at the latest, which results from the decisions of the Council of Nicaea in the 4th century AD. It was then approved that Easter would be celebrated on the first Sunday after the first spring full moon. Interestingly, the German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, who lived at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, developed a special method for calculating the date of Easter in a given year, but it is very complex.
When is Easter 2024? Dates of the Paschal Triduum and feast days
The official start of the countdown to Easter 2024 was February 14, i.e. Ash Wednesday. Then the main period preceding Easter began, i.e. the 40-day Lent, which is a time of reflection and refraining from loud parties.
According to the above-mentioned rule of the first spring full moon (March 25), the Paschal Triduum (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday) will begin on March 28, Easter Sunday falls on March 31, and Easter Monday on April 1.
Change to daylight saving time on Easter 2024
In 2024, we celebrate Easter on the last day of March and this is the earliest date of Easter in recent years. In 2023, Easter Sunday fell on April 9, and a year earlier – on April 17. As for the following years, in 2025 Easter will fall on April 20, and in 2026 – on April 5. In turn, in 2027, Easter will fall on March 28.
It is worth remembering that this year’s Easter is changing from winter to summer. We change the clocks from: 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on the night of March 30-31 (Saturday to Sunday).
Easter 2024 and days off from work. When to take a vacation?
Regardless of when Easter falls, we can always be sure of a break from professional duties. The days off are Easter and Easter Monday. If that’s not enough, it’s worth thinking about April 3-5. This way we will get a total of 9 days of rest from work.
Students will also have time off during the Easter holidays. In 2024, it will be five days – from March 28 to April 2. Therefore, they will not return to schools until Wednesday, April 3.
When are the next days off after Easter?
In 2024, we have a total of 13 public holidays. The following days will be free after Easter:
- May 1 (Wednesday) – Labor Day;
- May 3 (Friday) – Constitution Day on May 3;
- May 19 (Sunday) – Pentecost;
- May 30 (Thursday) – Corpus Christi;
- August 15 (Thursday) – Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Polish Army Day;
- November 1 (Friday) – All Saints’ Day;
- November 11 (Monday) – Independence Day;
- December 25 (Wednesday) – the first day of Christmas;
- December 26 (Thursday) – the second day of Christmas.
