is undoubtedly one of the most popular Polish actors. His artistic achievements include many excellent productions on the small and large screen. The most popular ones include: “Skazany na bluesa”, “Gods”, “Cold War” or the latest version. And although he has a lot of reasons to be proud, in hindsight he knows that participating in some projects was not a good idea.
Tomasz Kot talks about cooperation with Patryk Vega. He would definitely not take on this role again
In an interview for the podcast of Piotr Kędzierski and Kuba Wojewódzki, he revealed that his least praiseworthy titles include mainly films. Their paths crossed for the first time in 2010. Kot was a rising star of Polish cinema at the time, and the director’s credits included: the hit “Pitbull”, which brought popularity to Marcin Dorociński. – There was a moment when every actor in the country wanted to play with Patryk Vega – he was fascinated by the director, adding that he himself received an offer, but he could not take it up due to other professional commitments. – Patryk took me for some test shots, but I couldn’t because I was shooting another season of “The Nanny” – he said.
However, it was not an opportunity that passed forever, because soon Vega began preparations for the next film and offered him to play one of the main roles. Then he agreed without a second thought. – At one point, Patryk says that “Ciacho” will be a Polish scam, cars will explode, and this has never happened in Poland before. Of course, I agreed, he recalled. The production actually attracted real crowds to cinemas, breaking viewing records, but it was a long way to success. Critics did not spare negative assessments, which quickly resulted in it being called one of the worst comedies in the history of Polish cinematography.
Is this Tomasz Kot’s worst role? The actor considers it an “absolute failure”
Although Kot is still not satisfied with the reviews “Ciacho” received him, he does not consider it the worst of his artistic achievements. He called the war action film “Hans Kloss.”, a sequel to the cult series from 1968 with the main character, an “absolute failure”. – Patryk comes and says that maybe not in comedies, we’re going back to edgy male cinema. I thought it would be like “Pitbull”, only from World War II – he said. As it later turned out, he made a mistake in his assumptions, adding that he would prefer to completely erase this role from his memory.
Finally, he added that, fortunately, he has productions that he still proudly boasts about. He considers his greatest success to be the biographical drama “Gods” directed by Łukasz Palkowski, in which he played the outstanding heart surgeon, Professor Zbigniew Religa. – This is my internal breakthrough, although Cold War was technically the most visible film. But personally she is not more important than “Gods” – he concluded.
