in 2015, she was one of the stars who publicly supported Andrzej Duda, then a candidate for the office of President of the Republic of Poland. Czesław Niemen’s daughter had previously avoided politics, but she was convinced by Duda’s declared views and traditional values. “I am a fan of the traditional family, the man should rule, and the woman should be his help and support,” she said in an interview with the weekly “W network”.
Natalia Niemen regrets supporting Andrzej Duda
Nine years later, at the end of Andrzej Duda’s second term, Natalia Niemen talked to Natalia Szymańczyk on her podcast. A difficult question was asked about summing up the presidency and how he assessed his involvement at that time. Czesław Niemen’s daughter performed on stage during the meeting inaugurating Duda’s campaign two songs composed by her father – “Dziwny jest ten jest” and “I want to see heaven”. The singer fell silent for a moment.
That was light years away from the me I am today. Considering that Christian values were extremely important to me, I really believed that Andrzej Duda would introduce this Christian order. Then I regretted it. But today I count it as a wealth of experience – admitted Natalia Niemen.
And what did she say about this situation in 2015? At that time, she was criticized for supporting an openly anti-freedom party. Niemen, however, explained that she was supporting Andrzej Duda because of her values:
We are here because we support people who, with all their hearts, words and actions, and with their, I think, heart’s intentions, want traditional values to continue in our Poland, not die, flourish and grow. Values like God. But a living God, not just one who is like a painted picture in front of a church. The one who truly lives in the heart. If a person allows it, God lives in the heart. Family – second point. What else? Honor. In this order. And then the homeland is full of beauty, goodness and that strength that is slowly, little by little, missing in the world – she said that day in the ATM studio, where the convention of the PiS candidate for president was held.
In a conversation with Natalia Szymańczyk a few days ago, Natalia Niemen summed herself up as follows: “I was a religious fundamentalist, religion took away my beret. I believed that I believed best.”
