Moss on the lawn is not welcome. Dense tufts limit the supply of water, oxygen and nutrients to the grass roots. They weaken its growth and limit its space. As a result, the lawn has holes, looks miserable and is not aesthetically pleasing. And this is the basis of every garden. If it is not well-kept, even the most beautiful flowers will not improve the overall impression.

How to get rid of moss from the lawn? Prevention

Moss likes shady, not too airy and humid places. Although we do not always have an influence on where exactly the lawn is located and how much sun falls there, we can take care of other issues. Activities carried out in the first months of the year will be very helpful. It’s worth taking care of your lawn in spring.

Moss on your lawn will not want to grow if the soil is not compacted. For this purpose, aeration is carried out. For this purpose, a special roller with spikes (aerator) is used, which breaks up the soil, at the same time introducing air into it and enabling better absorption of water and nutrients. It is also worth scarifying 1-2 times a year, which allows you to remove dead parts of plants from the turf, thanks to which the lawn is regenerated and more nourished. If you noticed moss on your lawn last year, you can lime the lawn. Lime reduces the acidity of the soil, which favors the growth of moss. It is also worth remembering to mow the grass regularly. However, it should not be shortened at the ground level. Gardeners recommend leaving a height of approximately 5 cm.

How to get rid of moss from the lawn? A home patent for a few zlotys

If we want to get rid of moss from the lawn, it is worth choosing home solutions. Chemical products are available in stores, but they are not very ecological and they are expensive. Few people know that what can help us fight moss is probably already in our home. And if not, we can buy it at any grocery store for literally a few zlotys.

Ordinary vinegar acts as a natural and ecological herbicide on moss and other weeds. It dries them and the effect is visible after just a few hours. Just mix it with water in a 1:2 ratio (e.g. 1 liter of vinegar to 2 liters of water) and spray it on the moss tufts. It is worth paying special attention to this, because such a mixture may also have a negative effect on the grass, so it is better to avoid it. Choose a sunny, windless day for spraying. The lawn should not be damp, as this may weaken the effect of the spray.
