Shereene Idriss, a famous dermatologist from New York, decided to appeal to women on a very important issue. Recently, a certain beauty trend has become popular on TikTok, which – as the doctor warns – may be very dangerous as a result.
Wrinkles are a real topic. There are plenty of tips on how to get rid of them or prevent them from occurring on the Internet. However, if they really bother us and we want to introduce a given anti-aging treatment, we should primarily, or rather – exclusively – rely on the advice of specialists.
Such as Shereene Iddriss – a New York dermatologist who not only educates her followers on how to take care of the condition of the skin, but also debunks certain myths related to skin care. Especially if they are dangerous to health – and in the case of this now viral “trick”, this is exactly the case.
Wrinkles, dark circles under the eyes. A dermatologist debunks a dangerous myth
The dermatologist is followed by 732,000 people on TikTok. This is no surprise – the 40-year-old has absolutely stunning skin and combines her career with being a mother. It’s not easy because the doctor runs her own clinic.
The dermatologist decided to deal with a very dangerous trend that has recently taken over English-language TikTok. Users started sharing a “lifehack” on how to get rid of bags and wrinkles under the eyes by applying hemorrhoids cream to the skin in the mentioned area.
“Increases the risk of glaucoma”
Shereene Idriss immediately rushed to help and explained, to never do this – because it can have a very dangerous effect. As she explained, medicinal products against hemorrhoids contain two ingredients: phenylephrine and steroids. This is an extremely dangerous mixture for our eyes and the delicate skin around them.
Phenylephrine combined with a steroid around the eye will not only increase the risk of glaucoma…
– the expert began.
The steroid will actually thin the skin in the long run, worsening the appearance of wrinkles and redness around the eyes
– she clarified. Finally, she added that by using this false trick, most likely “wrinkles will look even worse” and in the worst case scenario, your eyesight will also suffer due to glaucoma. She strongly advised her followers not to follow this type of unproven and dangerous advice.
So you’ll look wrinkled (…) and you probably won’t even be able to see well because of it
– she explained.
Wrinkles, dark circles under the eyes. How to get rid of them?
Instead, it is better to simply opt for cosmetic products designed directly to reduce wrinkles and dark circles under the eyes. For example, a cream applied to the skin around the eyes should contain niacinamide, ginseng extract and vitamin C. Retinol is also a reliable agent in the fight against wrinkles. However, you should be careful to choose the appropriate concentration of retinol serum, as it can significantly irritate your skin. In addition, you should also be careful not to accidentally get any of it into your eyes.
