Before she became the owner of luxury restaurants and a TV star, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid and tried to spread her wings as a painter. In 1979, another exhibition of paintings by her was to be held in Salamanca. However, it so happened that she did not have the opportunity to reach the town located several dozen kilometers away from Madrid, where she usually lived. Then her father’s friend, correspondent of the “Der Spiegel” newspaper Volkhart Müller, came to the rescue and lent her his white, worn-out BMW for three days.
She left her fiancé for a doctor from Poland. Later she had an affair with a Spanish architect
Despite its age, the technical condition of the car was impeccable, so when it unexpectedly broke down on the way back, she was shocked. It turned out that her then fiancé, Gregor, did not check the engine oil level before the route, which caused it to seize completely. Devastated, having no money to cover the repairs, and with enormous remorse, she decided to invite Müller for dinner as compensation. The man turned out to be very understanding, they spent many hours in long conversations, laughing uproariously, and that’s how their friendship began.
In the meantime, Gessler returned to Warsaw to extend her visa. It was then that she met a doctor, Waldemar Kozerawski, who turned her head, and the rest was mutual. They quickly moved in together, but the spell was broken when it turned out that the man had recently welcomed a daughter into the world and was going to go with her to Canada, where her mother was from. Then the young painter packed her bags and after 3 months returned to Spain, where her longing and unaware fiancé was waiting for her. However, the vision of their life together began to weigh on her, she did not feel ready to get married, so when a Catalan architect appeared on her path, she entered into a short but fiery marriage.
He was the first husband of Magda Gessler. She bore him a son and a daughter, who died shortly after giving birth
At the same time, she also renewed contact with Müller. They arranged a dinner, about which she had high expectations, but the man, exhausted by pneumonia, had no idea how to entertain her. So she decided that he was not partner material and right after returning home she called her ex-fiance, who took her in without hesitation. However, her happiness was illusory, because she was thinking about the older correspondent all the time. He showed up at her friend’s exhibition, for which she was preparing a savory cake. From that night on, they were almost inseparable.
He was eleven years older than me, but we were on the same wavelength. He was a few centimeters taller and had the appearance of a typical intellectual. He wore glasses, corduroy pants, turtlenecks and jackets
– in the biography. The idyll lasted until his beloved Gessler was diagnosed with the most malignant type, specifically melanoma, but the surgery was enough to stop the development of the disease. The happiness was even greater because in the meantime the painter announced that she was in a blessed condition. On May 20, 1982, the couple got married, and three months later their firstborn son Tadeusz was born.
It wasn’t long before she found out she was expecting another child. However, the indescribable joy was quickly followed by sadness. She was admitted to hospital in the 6th month of pregnancy after her water broke while shopping. Ultimately, she gave birth naturally to a daughter, Anna Wanda, who died after only 2 weeks of life. It was a real blow for them, but it gave them faith that they could overcome any difficulties. As a sign of love, they decided to get married again, this time Protestant, which took place on July 13, 1985. The next day, Gessler’s husband was taken to hospital with a high fever, and after tests, it turned out that he had a several-centimeter tumor in his lungs. During the year-long treatment, he underwent three serious surgeries, but the last one turned out to be too exhausting for his body.
My husband was put into a medically induced coma without my knowledge or consent. Then I found out that it was his sister who decided about it. She did me a terrible harm in this way
– in the book. Volkhart Müller died on Magda Gessler’s 33rd birthday, July 10, 1986. – I was with him until the end. He died in my arms – she said in an interview for “Grazia”.
Piotr Gessler was her companion in life and business. They divorced when their daughter was 9 years old
After her husband’s death, the painter decided to return to her homeland. When little Tadeusz was left in the care of his grandparents, she worked to earn money to support the family. It was then, completely by accident, that she met a famous Polish restaurateur. Although he was married and had a son, he completely lost his head for the young widow. Their relationship developed dynamically and in 1989, the fruit of their love, a daughter, appeared in the world. Despite the opposition of his family, which did not accept his new bride, the man decided to divorce, after which he married Magda Gessler in 1995.
They were not only companions in life, but also in work. It was he who introduced her to the world of gastronomy, as together they took over the management of the “U Fukiera” restaurant. However, he did not want to lead such a media life as his wife, and he preferred the privacy of his own home and time spent with his children to lavish banquets. Increasingly frequent quarrels eventually led to the breakdown of the marriage. Despite this, they remained on friendly terms and maintained close contact until Piotr’s death on August 27, 2021.
After the divorce, she was in a relationship with Mariusz Diakowski for 7 years, who had previously worked as a waiter in one of the restaurants she ran, and it was with him that she founded the successful “Zielnik” restaurant. Later, she had a short relationship with the renowned actor Piotr Adamczyk, which lasted only 3 months. Ultimately, she found happiness with a doctor, Waldemar Kozarewski, the very one who left her in the 1970s and went to Canada. – I knew he was the right man and nothing had changed. He said “you won’t escape me again” – she recalled the first meeting after many years. They have been together for over two decades, dividing their lives between Poland and Toronto, where the man lives.
