What conditions does heliotrope like? Sow it now, otherwise it will bloom for a shorter time
Heliotrope seeds take a really long time to germinate, so if you want to enjoy beautiful flowers this season, it is best to sow them in boxes in February or March. Importantly, do not sprinkle them with soil, but press them lightly into the soil, e.g. with a board. The last step should be a gentle sprinkling of water. If the appropriate temperature is maintained, around 18-20 degrees, they should sprout after about 15-20 days. In April, move them to pots, and in May, when the risk of frost return is zero, move them to a permanent place. It may be a flower bed in the garden or a flowerpot on the balcony.
How long does heliotrope bloom? Do it regularly and it will delight you with flowers for a really long time
The permanent place for the heliotrope should be quite bright and sunny, but preferably not all day long, but only until noon. Therefore, finding the best position is sometimes problematic. Especially since too long exposure to sunlight may cause the plant to wilt. Thus it’s better to try anyway. Fertile and well-drained soil works best, but clay soil is definitely not suitable. What is important, heliotrope requires regular wateringeven every 2-3 days, and fertilization during the growing season. During flowering, remove faded inflorescences. This simple procedure will make the plant delightful even until frost.
