Agnieszka Pilaszewska quit acting: There was only enough for four slices of ham for her daughter

Audiences loved Agnieszka Pilaszewska for her role as Alina Krawczyk in “The Honey Years”. “Charles!” – her firm but warm voice always managed to give her husband something to think about. That’s why he usually replied angrily: “Don’t insult me now!” – he was aware that his wife was right again. Millions loved “Honey Years” also, or perhaps primarily, thanks to the excellent cast. It’s hard to imagine a better casting for the Krawczyks and Norks. It’s no wonder that when Pilaszewska suddenly disappeared from the series, questions arose.

The actress’s memories from that period were published by the Plejada website. “I was working at the Ateneum Theater at the time and had premiere after premiere. Every day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. I had rehearsals there, then I went to the rehearsal of ‘Honey Years’ at the Jewish Theater. It ended at 6 p.m., and a quarter of an hour later I had to be in the dressing room because I was playing performance at the Ateneum. I left the house at 9 a.m. and came back after 10 p.m.,” she said in an interview.

Agnieszka Pilaszewska did not feel fulfilled as an actress

Pilaszewska was a young mother at the time and wanted to spend more time with her daughter. “I saw my little daughter only in the morning and at night. I was haunted by the thought that it was difficult for her. In fact, it was difficult for me! The thought that I was dealing with my career in a ruthless way. You can work like that for two weeks or three months, but two “Years are a very long time in a child’s life,” she added.

After “Honeymoon Years”, it was time for “Colors of Happiness”. However, playing in TV series did not give Pilaszewska much joy and satisfaction. She admitted that playing Alina Krawczyk was pleasant, but another role in an episodic production was not a challenge. In an interview with ” Rzeczpospolita” admitted that she accepted the offer only for the money. “I have the unpleasant impression that I rather stepped back. It wasn’t a challenge for my workshop. I love my profession and it still fascinates me. But interesting proposals are rare. I don’t feel like playing happy aunts anymore,” she said.

“You can starve to death while working at the theater.”

From interviews with the actress, you can easily read that she did not feel fulfilled and had unfulfilled ambitions. “You don’t get a chance to show what you’re capable of every time. I can’t say that I was lucky to get great roles. In my career, I haven’t played in either Kieślowski’s or Wajda’s films. It’s a poor achievement,” she noted in an interview with Republic”.

However, the money from playing in the theater alone was not enough for Pilaszewska to support herself. “When you work full-time at the theater, you can die of hunger. What can you do for an average of PLN 1.5 thousand? How not to act in a series? How not to host a banquet?” – she lamented in an interview with Gala magazine. “In such a situation, anything that provides bread cannot be called trash, although, as I mentioned, it does not make you proud. I have experienced it myself. My husband and I were in a situation where we only had money for four slices of ham for sandwiches for our daughter, who she was 4-5 years old then. Not a penny more,” the actress recalled the difficult time.

Pilaszewska had enough of the frustration and changed her life and profession

Finally, Agnieszka Pilaszewska decided that she had had enough of staying in a frustrating situation. She decided to change her life, quit acting and started writing screenplays. She finally achieved the desired success. From then on, she stopped receiving acting offers, and when the phone actually rang, she refused.

“When the phone rings and there’s something to play, I ‘clear it’ because I already know what the proposition is. And I don’t waste my time on such acting tasks. I can’t stand any more disappointments in this profession that I still love.” ” – Pilaszewska explained bitterly.

She learned scriptwriting skills alongside her husband, Maciej Maciejewski. “Probably nothing would have been created without him. He had already encouraged me to write, but as a politically correct wife, I thought: ‘I will try to make a career as an actress,'” says the actress in an interview with “Fakt”.

Today, the actress has written scripts for many popular productions. She started by creating the series “Same Życie”, then she started writing “Recipe for Life” with Paweł Adamczyk and Magdalena Kumorek and “Samej słodzie”. In 2017, she created a script for two episodes of the series “Ultraviolet”, four years later she wrote “It Must Be Love”. She is also the author of the script for the Netflix series “Family Games” with Izabela Kuna, Piotr Pack and Bartosz Gelner.
