I watched “Rojst. Millenium” and now I feel sad. You have to watch out for this series

I would like to warn you and advise you not to watch Jan Holoubek’s latest series “Rojst. Millenium” too late in the evening.

Not because you’re going to have nightmares. Simply put, “Millenium” is a series that you watch in one sitting because it is as addictive as the titular swamp. It’s also a real pity that the third season of “Rojst” is also the last one, because it was the best among the creators. In fact, when I said this during a conversation with the main cast, Andrzej Seweryn was very happy, because in his opinion it was difficult to match the level of the previous series. They not only equaled it, but even surpassed it. Although there are six episodes, there is a serious risk that most viewers will consume them in one evening. It’s better not to stay up all night.

“Rojst. Millenium” is the best of all seasons

We are returning to the forest in Gronty after a two-year break. A lot has changed during this time: editor Wanycz () retired from the editorial office and enjoys home life, but “interesting topics” always find him. Even when he’s retired. Zarzycki () has also been spending more time at home lately, because the reality of the last two years has become too much for him. However, after breaking up with Teresa, he discovered that he had a lot in common with Joanna Drewicz (Vanessa Aleksander), who happens to be an archaeologist and excavates in the forest. One day, she and other researchers find the skeleton of a woman, which is definitely different from the rest buried during the war. The new prosecutor (Piotr Głowacki) sees this as an opportunity and calls a press conference.

Meanwhile, the hotel manager (Piotr Fronczewski) watches everything on TV and calls Wanycz to invite him to a banquet to celebrate his birthday. They still have unresolved issues from the past, and they will soon make their presence felt. In the meantime, Anna Jass (Magdalena Różczka) appears again in the city, she is also going through a difficult period in her life, but when Mika (Łukasz Simlat), who wants to solve the last case before retirement, comes to her and asks for help, she does not hesitate for a moment . It’s similar when she learns from him that Zarzycki has problems with his daughter Wanda. The situation is getting more and more confusing and dangerous, because really dangerous people are involved – this is just an introduction to the action.

“Rojst. Millenium” closes the series trilogy based on the scripts of the duo – Kasper Bajon with a very elegant ending. If someone doesn’t remember the first two seasons very well, a little repetition of the entertainment will certainly help you appreciate all the tidbits and references to previous series neatly woven into the plot. But don’t worry, you will still be able to enjoy watching “Millenium” without it. The creators made sure that the third season was an independent entity that provided the viewer with the appropriate context and all the information needed to understand the motivations and actions of individual characters. However, I was pleased to see how a very attractive structure was built on the foundations developed during the first two seasons. Because the threads leading to the ball and the very heart of the intrigue follow very interesting paths.

In the new series of “Rojst” we have a really well-thought-out plot with a broadly defined intrigue that unfolds smoothly and clearly. In all this, of course, we see a fantastic cast. Not only because, apart from Andrzej Seweryn and Piotr Fronczewski, this time we will also see Janusz Gajos in action. The idea of pairing him with Tomasz Schudchart was very clever and the more I think about it, the more it convinces me.

Here, the entire acting suit is very respectable and one could praise other people for a long time. It is certainly worth emphasizing that Filip Pławiak shines unexpectedly, he did a fantastic job in the retrospective part and portrays the young incarnation of the hotel manager with dignity. Michał Pawlik as the policeman Dzidzia is also absolutely charming, and Łukasz Simlat as the retiring-but-working-on-his-last-case Mika is beyond impressive. His hero is at the same time human, witty, committed to the cause and, in his own charming way, charismatic.

The new “Rojst” ends too quickly

I could also write that Anna Jass, as a sergeant, is the female equivalent of Franz Maurer from “Dogs”, but this would not do justice to the sensitivity with which the actress played her, or to the way this character is written. And it is written intelligently, on many levels and beyond the “top-of-the-line” clichés from police action movies. Nevertheless, the opening sequence of this season is an absolute show off by the actress, but I have the impression that the action was too realistic. Vanessa Aleksander also has too few scenes, she barely sneaks across the screen in a few scenes, but they still make the most of what the script gives them. The story of the new assessor, played so well by Marianna Gierszewska, is interesting, and the way the prosecutor’s office created the buxom jug Mr. Piotr Głowacki, seemingly subtly, but in a way that makes you dislike the guy, is also delightful.

I also appreciate that the scriptwriters took care of small details, including satisfying the viewers’ love for Robert Makłowicz. They cleverly included a piece of footage from his program in the first episode – it seems like a small thing, but it’s nice. It is this attention to detail that makes the atmosphere of the era fit perfectly in “Millenium”, although I must admit that I do not remember Turkish sweaters so well from those times, which Vanessa Aleksander proudly presents here.

For the sake of formality, I will also add that the cinematic photos and frames are naturally beautiful, and the background music elegantly complements the whole. If I had to complain about something, it would be the loose thread of a certain Hanys, because it was not effectively closed. But maybe I shouldn’t complain, because it could be a gateway to a potential spin-off in the form of a separate feature film (since the creators swear that there will be no more seasons). This could also be very interesting. Meanwhile, “Rojst. Millenium” will be available from February 28, 2024.
