TVP Info has problems. Winna TV Republika, whose growth is exploding

TVP Info resumed broadcasting almost two months ago with a new line-up. However, the viewership results leave no doubt – old viewers were so accustomed to party television that they left en masse for the competition.

TVP Info stopped broadcasting a few days before Christmas. For over a week, the TVP 1 signal was broadcast on its air. Viewers received a forced detox from the party scoundrel into which the previous authorities of Telewizja Polska turned the news program. This situation did not suit everyone. Viewers, accustomed to political propaganda since 2016, welcomed the new version of TVP Info with obvious reluctance – with different views and parties that had not been allowed to vote for several years. This is visible in the viewing results.

TVP Info’s viewership results speak for themselves – Poles loved propaganda

Changes at TVP Info are still ongoing – new faces keep appearing for new – and sometimes refreshed old – programs. However, the program’s lack of emphasis on either side of the political dispute is difficult for old TVP Info viewers to swallow. Viewership results presented by the Wirtualne Media portal clearly indicate that a significant part of viewers went to where the TVP Info hosts were – to TV Republika.

Wirtualne Media presented viewing results for January 2024 compared to January 2023. TVP Info lost the largest percentage of market share. The previous reach (4.43%) was one of the two largest in the country – only TVN24 had a slightly greater reach (4.76%). In January this year, TVP Info had the fourth largest reach among news programs – only 1.52%. They were overtaken by Polsat News and TV Republika.

The result of the latter is a jump on a truly crazy scale. In 2023, TV Republika had a negligible market share (0.11 percent, only Telewizja WPOLSCE.pl and BIZNES24 were lower). A year later, after two months of the revolution in public media, TV Republika took over viewers who sympathized with Law and Justice and saw an increase in market share by… 3,100 percent. It is currently the second most watched news station in Poland, after TVN24, with a reach of 3.52%.

This is not good news for TVP Info. From the famous “interview” of Krzysztof Stanowski with Samuel Pereira (former head of TVP Info), it is known that this channel was settled, among others, from the number of viewers. If this trend is maintained, TVP Info must quickly end the revolution and convince new viewers who have stopped watching TV altogether due to its politicization.
