Chucho Valdés will pay tribute to the Irekere group at the Vitoria jazz festival

50 years have passed since Chucho Valdés founded Irakere, the group that revolutionized Afro-Cuban music by fusing it with jazz, rock, classical music and the popular rhythms of the island.
The Cuban pianist, composer and arranger leads a group composed of José A. Gola (electric and acoustic bass), Horacio Hernández (drums) and Roberto Jr. Vizcaíno Torre (percussion), as well as Eddie de Armas Jr. (trumpet), Osvaldo Fleites (trumpet), Luis Beltrán (saxophone), Carlos Averhoff Jr. (saxophone), and vocalist Ramón Alvarez.
This Cuban celebration will be the icing on the cake, on Saturday, July 20, of a festival that, on its main stage, will be inaugurated by Pablo Martín Caminero from Vitoria, who returns to his hometown.
Martín Caminero played with the NDR Bigband, a jazz ensemble from Hamburg’s public radio, and will now revive this performance in Vitoria, with his trio and the direction and arrangements of Geir Lysne, the director of NDR Bigband.
