Internal and – until our candidate is announced – secret pre-selections are a new quality on Polish Television. In recent years, the election of our candidate took place publicly and with the participation of viewers’ votes. However, after last year’s numerous irregularities, which indicated that the competition was organized for one participant, this year it was decided to completely change the formula and focus on its transparency. TVP presented the exact division of jury votes in the preselections.

The names of this year’s jurors, asked by TVP to choose our Eurovision candidate, remained secret until the winner was announced. Thanks to this, the jurors could choose songs based on their own preferences and the good of the representative, without succumbing to external pressure. Last Monday it was announced that our pre-selections. The names of the jurors were revealed along with it,
Kasia Moś (singer, representing Poland at Eurovision in 2017), Konrad Szczęsny (president of the Association of Eurovision Song Contest Lovers OGAE Polska), Łukasz Pieter (music director of Radio ZET), Michał Hanczak (music journalist of Radio Eska) and Piotr were invited to join the jury. Klatt (deputy director of the TVP Entertainment Creation and Fixture Agency, music journalist). Each juror, as during the actual Eurovision Song Contest, awarded votes from 1 to 10 (only the famous “twelve points” were missing) to individual performers who applied for the pre-selection.
Ultimately, the jurors’ scores allowed them to select 23 candidates with scores ranging from 3 to 34 points. The winner was Luna with “The Tower” and Justyna Steczkowska with “Witch-er Tarohoro” was just one point below. In third place was a non-standard proposal: a song from the film “Chłopi” – “Jesień – tancuj” (LUC, Kayah, Dagadana, LP. RBFO). Natasza Urbańska, Marcin Maciejczak, bryska, Maciej Musiałowski, Izabela Zabielska and… Edyta Górniak, who was also on the pre-selection list of candidates, also received points from the jurors. However, her result is far from expected, because the singer is close to the bottom of the score and a real points crater has formed between her and Justyna Steczkowska.
Edyta Górniak took 18th place in the preselections with five points, awarded only by one of the jurors. Only Piotr Klatt trusted her, but not enough to give her more than five points. Compared to Steczkowska’s two tens, a nine and a four, this is a gulf.
