Due to health problems and problems with the law, Jerzy Stuhr practically disappeared from public life for the last few months. Last Saturday, he gave a long interview in the first episode of the new program “Rozmowy (nie)wygodne”, hosted by Mariusz Szczygieł on TVP Info. The conversation began with the topic of Tadeusz Słabodzianek’s play entitled “Genius”, in which the actor plays the main character.
Jerzy Stuhr is, in a sense, retiring. However, he still has “movie cravings”
Moreover, Stuhr directed this performance, and in his description we can read that the role of Konstantin Stanislavski is to be the culmination of his artistic achievements. The actor confirmed this at a press conference for journalists, which he organized after completing preparations for the play at the Polonia Theater in Warsaw. At the very beginning, he announced that he was giving up being an acting teacher.
I’m finishing my teaching studies. I’m too old for this
he said. – They are younger and there are new methods. And I don’t know any other type of theater. Well, maybe apart from Witkacy (…). I treat this performance as a summary of my acting and mainly teaching path – he added, quoted by “”.
Moreover, he assured that despite giving up his career in theater and academia, he is still not abandoning the film craft. – I still have a thing for movies! – He admitted. He spoke in a similar tone in Mariusz Szczyg³’s program, in which he revealed that he was still waiting for a “big thing”, such as the role of Napoleon.
