In a long conversation, the comedians recalled the times when they played stereotypical “mohair grandmothers”. It turns out that not only older people might not like this image. They caused problems, among others: Catholic priests.
The Neo-Nówka cabaret had problems with the Church because of skits about mohair grandmothers
Mohair grannies were once a symbolic representation of older voters who voted for Law and Justice. The famous pre-election campaigns “take grandma’s ID” were widely commented on and no wonder they became a perfect topic for jokes in cabarets. She didn’t miss this opportunity. In a series of sketches in the “Mohair Program”, stereotypical mohair grandmothers were ridiculed.
In a conversation with Wojewódzki and Kędzierski, the satirists admitted that not everyone looked favorably on the skits.
There was a situation when the vicar stopped me on the street, threatening me with excommunication, which he imposed for what we were doing. At that time we were playing “The Mohair Program”. I had situations where I was not married in Lutynia, and my older daughter was not baptized in my parish. She should have been taken to a rival parish, Gawliński said.
The “Mohair program” was Neo-Nówka’s flagship product in the mid-2000s. They commented on current political events – “mohair grannies” transferred pensions to Rydzyk, repeated racist and anti-Semitic jokes and mocked young people.
