48-year-old Pedro Pascal has been appearing in various productions for many years, but only last winter he gained international recognition thanks to the main role in the series “The Last of Us”. Recently, he also starred with Pedro Almodovar in the short western “Strange Paths of Life”, and soon we will see him in the comedy “Goodbye Dolls” directed by Ethan Coen.
They were asked about how to learn the role. Pedro Pascal surprised his industry colleagues
A few days ago, the Chilean-American actor participated in an actor group talk for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. Pascal was interviewed along with the other nominees for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series at the SAG Awards. They were Billy Crudup from “The Morning Show” and Matthew Macfadyen and Kieran Culkin from “Succession”.
20 minutes after the conversation began, the topic of actors learning their lines was raised. It was at this moment that Pedro Pascal had his proverbial five minutes, because he shared a method that really surprised his colleagues. The star of “The Last of Us” pulled out a sheet of paper with rows of coded words, which he began to explain this way:
It’s sort of like the first letter of every word. You see these letters, right? Basically, I’m like the Unabomber [Ted Kaczynski – inny seryjny morderca, który posługiwał się szyfrem – przyp. red.]. You use the first letter of each word in those rows or columns and this is a time-consuming way to learn the lines without having to make choices. It’s not even artistic, it’s just a really technical way that I had to learn because of that terrible experience of forgetting my lines,” he admitted to his colleagues.
His colleagues were very surprised by this method. The actor’s fans were also very surprised, what they expressed on social media. Some of them compared a fragment of the actor’s text to the letters of the Zodiac serial killer, and one user of the X portal joked that the identity of the criminal had finally been revealed.
