On December 20, 2023, the management board changed and the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, placed the company into liquidation. This initiated revolutionary changes, including the suspension of TVP Info broadcasting. Then “Wiadomości” also disappeared from the air, which was replaced the next day by the “7.30 p.m.” program, as well as “Panorama” and “Teleexpress”. At the same time, most of those associated with the PiS propaganda message lost their positions.
Will TV Republika pay TVP compensation? It was about publishing “News”
Shortly after the new government came to Woronicza, TV Republika broadcast a material called a “special edition” directly from the “Wiadomości” studio. He appeared in it, among others: Michał Rachoń in the role of the host, who talked with the then president of the Television Information Agency, Michał Adamczyk, about the illegal takeover of the station by the parliamentary majority. They unanimously compared the whole situation to the introduction of martial law by the communist authorities, which was also supported by his deputy, . Several other people associated with the program and guests of the edition also spoke at the meeting, including: Jacek Karnowski or Karol Nawrocki, who is the president of the Institute of National Remembrance.
Due to the distribution of the recording on the Internet, the liquidator of TVP SA, Daniel Gorgosz, decided to initiate proceedings. He sent a pre-court demand to pay PLN 200,000 to the head and editor-in-chief of TV Republika, Tomasz Sakiewicz. PLN to the station’s account and PLN 50,000. PLN for the Polish Film Institute. This is to be a form of compensation for the damage caused, in particular for “infringement of property rights to the set design of the ‘Wiadomości’ broadcast and committing an act of unfair competition.” In a statement, he demanded that the material be permanently removed and the station made three broadcasts of the prepared statement on the matter.

As one might expect, Sakiewicz has no intention of fulfilling the claims of the TVP liquidator, although the latter noted that if they are not met within 7 days, he will be forced to take appropriate legal steps. In a conversation with Sakiewicz, he stated that the function performed by Daniel Gorgosz is illegal, therefore the decisions he issues have no force. – This is another attempt to extort money by an unauthorized person. The liquidator is not authorized, he is not in the National Court Register – he said. At the same time, he emphasized that at the time of the episode’s production, all those who had been employed at the station and were responsible for the program participated in them, and therefore changing the visual setting was not justified. – We did not edit the scenery, the presenter was not our journalist. In the place where “Wiadomości” was supposed to be, we made a program about why “Wiadomości” did not take place – he explained.
It is worth mentioning that these are not the only claims that the company’s liquidator submitted to the head of TV Republika. The first one was submitted on February 12 and concerned the suspension of the broadcast of the original program “Jedziemy”, which was previously broadcast on TVP Info in an almost identical formula. In exchange for copyright infringement, the station demands PLN 1 million in compensation.
