Many factors determine which line or scene is most memorable. This may be influenced by the “cult” nature of specific words, the entry of given words into everyday language, but also the reaction it evoked in us during the screening. An American company producing cheese (why cheese in particular, see below) decided to check it out. The conclusions are surprising.
The most famous movie lines? Most viewers remember these best
Americans call it “cheesy”, although it has nothing to do with cheese, Poles call it “trashy”, “embarrassing” or “kitsch”. It does not always have a negative meaning, although this is the first thing that comes to mind when translated into Polish. It was because of the word “cheesy” that Daiya, a cheese producing company, decided to try to answer the question of what movie quotes we remember the most. More than 2,000 Americans participated in the study. They had to answer the question, among others: about which issues they consider embarrassing and which ones are most memorable. It turns out that these issues are related.
Which scenes are better remembered? The greater the embarrassment, the greater the chances
It turns out that as many as 63 percent respondents remember and associate better those issues and scenes considered embarrassing (in a positive sense, if one can put it that way) than serious ones. According to the vast majority, the king said the line “You had me at hello” from the movie “Jerry Maguire”. What famous lines from American movies did the respondents consider the cheesiest?
- “You already won me over with ‘hello'” from the movie “Jerry Maguire.”
- “What I fear most of all is to leave this room and never again in my life feel the way I feel when I’m with you” from the movie “Dirty Dancing”.
- “I want a fairy tale” from the movie “Pretty Woman”.
- “We will always have Paris” from the movie “Casablanca”.
- “I’d rather die tomorrow than live a hundred years without knowing you” from the movie “Pocahontas”.
