Black hair, long bangs, heavily lined eyes and the inseparable black feathers on his head were his trademark. Lauri Ylönen was born in 1979 and grew up in Helsinki. He was already involved with music as a child. He started by learning to play the piano, which after some time he switched to the guitar. It was his sister who encouraged him to sing. Together with his friends from high school, he founded in 1994, which eventually took the name The Rasmus. Lauri was 15 years old then and decided to leave school to pursue a musical career.
In 2003, The Rasmus took the charts by storm. Two years ago he surprised with his performance at Eurovision
However, he had to wait until 2003 for success. Thanks to the single “In the Shadows”, The Rasmus reached languages not only in Europe. The album “Dead Letters” released in 2003 was their fifth. The song was for a long time one of the most frequently presented on radio stations, also in Poland, where it can still be heard today. However, subsequent singles and albums did not repeat this success. In 2008, the band decided to take a break and Lauri focused on his solo career.
– I thought I would go crazy waiting for it – in 2012, when after four years the band returned with another album. After the album, which was released in 2017, there was another longer break. However, The Rasmus did not stop his stage activities. He still gives concerts, also in Poland, where he has a loyal group of fans.
In 2022, they won the national qualifying round for the Song Contest and became the representative of Finland. In Turin they appeared on stage with the song “Jezebel”. The competition in the final was fierce, and ultimately the team took 21st place with 38 points. Even before the finale, the band announced that they were working on their next album. “Rise” was released on September 23, 2022.
What is Lauri Ylönen from The Rasmus doing today? Some time ago he revealed where the black feathers came from
As he confessed in an interview, today he lives in Hawaii. – It’s wonderful here, although it’s far from everywhere – he revealed. It is also known that he became a father. Since 2003, his stage image has changed several times, but recently his most characteristic element, i.e. peculiar black feathers, has returned to his head. He told them where they came from.
– I actually don’t know why I started weaving feathers into my hair – he admitted honestly. He also added that maybe “there is some symbolism in it.” He also shared a rather unusual confession. It turns out that fans send him feathers from all over the world, and one of them named a star in his honor.
