This interview destroyed Prince Andrew. Netflix took a closer look at it

Netflix announced the premiere of a film about the compromising interview that destroyed Prince Andrew’s reputation and eliminated him from the life of the British royal family for good. The main roles will be played by Gillian Anderson and Rufus Sewell.

“A Strong Subject” will tell the story behind the scenes of the shocking interview Prince Andrew gave to the BBC’s “Newsnight” in 2019. The meeting with the media was intended to improve the image of Elizabeth II’s son, who has been involved in numerous scandals. Instead, it led to embarrassment that resulted in Andrew being removed from his royal duties. The son of the British monarch said in a conversation with Emily Maitlis that he regrets knowing Jeffrey Epstein, accused of pedophilia and pimping. However, he showed no remorse towards his victims, for which he was criticized by public opinion.

“Inspired by true events, this drama goes behind the scenes of the uncompromising journalism that led to Prince Andrew’s shocking interview and embarrassing appearance on BBC’s ‘Newsnight.’ From the tension of producer Sam McAlister’s difficult negotiations with Buckingham Palace to journalist Emily Maitlis’ stunning showdown with the prince, this film “is a story about women who showed great courage and stopped at nothing to let the world hear this story,” we read in the plot description.

The main roles were played by Gillian Anderson (Emily Maitlis), Rufus Sewell (Prince Andrew), Billie Piper (Sam McAlliste) and Keeley Hawes (Amanda Thirsk). The script for “A Strong Theme” was written by Peter Moffat.
