she started her career at Polish Radio, later collaborated with TVP, and today she is undoubtedly one of the most popular journalists in Poland. He owes his recognition primarily to the program he has been running on and off since 1997. Although she has been present in the industry for over four decades, she consistently protects her private life and does not share its details in the media. However, it is known that she has had some truly difficult experiences, and the most painful came from her first husband.
Monika Olejnik was a victim of domestic violence. This was her first marriage
It is no secret that Monika Olejnik has had two failed relationships, but she remained silent about her first husband for years. It was only when the “Stop Violence” campaign was launched in the Polish media that she made an honest, though difficult, confession for the first time. In a post published on Instagram, she revealed that she was a victim of domestic violence. She didn’t want to stay in a relationship in which she didn’t feel safe, so she quickly decided to act and, despite fears that her partner would escape responsibility and go abroad, she filed for divorce shortly after the wedding.
I was a student, actually a 20-year-old child, when I got married without thinking twice. My life quickly became a nightmare. Mateusz, my then husband, was a violent person, he beat me. I had enough strength in me not to wait. I quickly moved away from him and divorced him
. She added that she wanted to forget the difficult times as quickly as possible and never maintained contact with him afterwards. Although the marriage was shrouded in mystery, “” found out that her partner was an electrical engineer valued in the Polish People’s Republic, Mateusz Praczuk. The man died in oblivion in 2014 at the age of 62 and was buried at Powązki Military Cemetery in Warsaw.
She had a son with her second husband. Years later, she admitted that she would like to have more children
Shortly after the breakup, the journalist started working at Radio Three. There she met Grzegorz Wasowski, with whom she fell head over heels in love. The renowned actor and satirist impressed her not only with his diligence, but also with his approach to life and wit. They quickly started dating and planning the future together. This time, learning from her mistakes, she postponed the wedding a little longer. Eventually, however, she accepted the proposal and they got married, welcoming their only son, Jerzy, into the world in 1985. Although motherhood gave her a lot of joy, she put her career first. Initially, she tried to combine work and child care, but it was quite a challenge. To be able to fully spread her wings, she sent her son to kindergarten, but due to too many responsibilities, he sometimes accompanied her to the editorial office. – My son went to kindergarten and I was a flying reporter. Sometimes he spent time with me in the editorial office – in “Zwierciadło”. The help of her relatives who supported her in the most professionally demanding moments was invaluable to her at that time.
Olejnik did not decide to have more children. At that time, her career was in bloom and she was afraid that if she disappeared from the industry for a while, she would not be able to rebuild what she had worked so hard and persistently for. Years later, however, she admitted that she regretted it, because the pursuit of success overshadowed what should be the most important thing in life. – I regret that I fell into this job and that I don’t have any more children – she said openly in the same conversation. She added that she did not accompany Jerzy growing up as she wanted and many moments escaped her forever. – My son has grown and I’m still working. I only missed certain moments in his life because I was always running around with a microphone, she said. In 2024, Jerzy will celebrate his 38th birthday. For some time he was interested in music, and later he took up film and wrote reviews for one of the magazines. Today he has a wife and two children, Jeremi and Jagna. He avoids the spotlight.
It is not entirely known in what circumstances Olejnik’s second marriage broke up, but it is certain that after the divorce she lived a single life for some time. Everything changed when in 1995 she met an aspiring sports journalist on Radio Three. First, they were united by a common passion, and then by a warm feeling. Although her relatives advised her against this relationship and claimed that the 24-year-old had no good intentions and wanted to make a career at her expense, she decided to follow her heart. Today, he doesn’t regret it at all, and he says he has the greatest support from his partner. Although they have been together for almost 29 years, they have not decided to get married yet.
