The record for human height recorded so far was 272 centimeters. So far, the tallest man in the world was considered to be a Turk, Sulatan Kösen, who was born in 1982 in Mardin. The man’s height was included in the Guinness Book of Records. However, it turns out that the tallest man on Earth may soon be “dethroned”.
According to the BBC, there is a man in Ghana who is almost 3 meters tall. Or more precisely – 289 centimeters. Sulemana Abdul Samed is 29 years old, and the surprising height measurements were taken at a hospital in northern Ghana. It turns out, however, that the result may be underestimated because the hospital is not able to perform precise measurements of such a tall person – emphasizes “National Geographic”. In addition, accurate calculations are also impossible due to the deformation of the man’s spine.
Sulemana Abdul Samed stood out for his height seven years ago. He then lived in Accra, the capital of Ghana. His dream was to work as a driver, but health problems turned out to be an obstacle. The situation finally forced him to return to his hometown. He settled in Gambada, where he currently runs a small family business. He opened a shop where he sells mobile phone cards.
Unfortunately, Sulemana Abdul Samed is struggling with a serious illness. The man suffers from Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder of connective tissue. It causes significant lengthening of the limbs, disproportion of the figure and deformation of the spine. The African has a hump on his back and a heart defect. Patients suffering from Marfan syndrome often struggle with vision problems, cardiovascular problems and muscle weakness.
The tallest man in the world may be almost 3 meters. “I’m still growing”
The height of the Ghanaian was also checked by one of the BBC reporters. According to his measurements, the man is less centimeters tall than Sultan Kösen – “only” 223.52 cm. However, this result cannot be considered sufficiently precise either.
It doesn’t matter, I’m still growing
– said Sulemana Abdul Samed. The 29-year-old uses fame for a good cause – he wants to earn money for treatment. The therapy is not covered by state insurance, and one hospital visit costs $50.
If the measurement results are officially confirmed, Sulemana Abdul Samed has a chance to become the tallest man in the history of the world. He will thus beat the American Robert Wadlow, who lived in Illinois between 1918 and 1940, and was 22 cm tall.
