On January 11, 2024, the series debuted with Borys Szyc and Andrzej Bienias in the main roles. It is an adaptation of three best-selling novels by one of the most popular contemporary writers, Remigiusz Mróz. We are talking about “Exposure”, “Przewieszenie” and “Trawers”, which sold hundreds of thousands of copies and are still breaking records of popularity among readers.
The creators of “Forst” changed the plot. What differences do fans of Mróz’s novel notice?
By definition, the adaptation is not a full reflection of what the author included in his books, but nevertheless the creators of “Forst” made every effort to ensure that the plot was as faithful to the original as possible. However, it was not possible to present all the threads as readers remember them. The production consists of six episodes, for which the content of three was adapted, therefore some threads had to be changed in order to devote more screen time to those that are of real importance to the course of the plot. We warn you – there will be spoilers!
One of the noticeable ones is Big Red’s shirt and cinnamon gum, which were the hallmarks of the main character, Wiktor Forst. Although they are mentioned many times in the books, they were not given much attention when creating the series. Many also noticed that the detective and Iwo Eliasz, who turned out to be the Beast of Giewont, knew each other before, because their paths intertwined in the orphanage. In Mróz’s novels, however, their acquaintance is different, and Forst learns the murderer’s identity by accident only at the end of the third volume.
This is how the Netflix hit differs from the original. What changed the most was the ending of the story
The story taking place on Orla Perć has also changed. In the novel, a detective and a murderer meet on mountain trails, where they struggle and the latter falls into an abyss. In turn, in the series, their duel takes place in the orphanage where Iwo imprisoned Agata, and together they fall out of the window. Readers also remember that Forst deliberately shot Sub-Inspector Edmund in the hand when he and Olga Szrebska were hiding with an old woman across the eastern border. In the series, this scene was placed at the very end, and in the hospital where the journalist was staying.
As for the finale, it is worth mentioning that it has undergone the greatest modifications. First, the detective hides Olga in the cottage of one of the policewomen, Nina, and later gets into another fight with Eliasz. He returns home to find a bloody coin and Nina’s dead body. In the next scene, the journalist can be seen driving a car in which the unconscious murderer lies, and at the same time the police arrive at Forst’s house. In turn, in the first part of the novel, almost at the end, the commissioner finds Olga dead in the hospital. He begins an investigation, during which he discovers that her death was faked by Elijah, who kidnapped her. The officers set an ambush above the cottage near the forest where the missing person is supposed to be, but they find a dead boy and a completely different woman there.
