The report of the Warsaw MPWiK is terrifying. It turns out that garbage that should never have been there ends up in toilet bowls. As many as 86% of respondents admitted to such behavior. 29% throw food remains into the toilet, and 31% pour out oil after frying. This behavior leads to clogging of pipes and damage to the sewage system, but is also a threat to the environment and can quickly attract rats and mice who will happily use the waste. – Only toilet paper can be thrown into the toilet, not moistened, but plain. Only this one dissolves in water. Other waste causes the formation of tight weaves and clumps in the sewage system, which are difficult to remove and block the flow of sewage. (…) Removing waste from flooded basements is not only troublesome, but also expensive, explained Renata Tomusiak, president of Wodociągi Warszawskie.

What should not be thrown into the toilet? Be careful because you may incur huge costs

25% of people admitted that they regularly flush moistened toilet paper down the toilet, and 7% – construction waste. What should not be thrown into the toilet? Under no circumstances should the following be placed in the toilet bowl:

  • personal hygiene products – diapers, sanitary pads, tampons or cotton pads,
  • medicines – they can harm the environment and pollute groundwater,
  • gravel – it can quickly clog pipes,
  • plastic bags,
  • cigarettes and cigarette filters,
  • hair and threads,
  • condoms.
