And this is where the problems begin, unfortunately, because Frank Herbert wrote six basic books, and Villeneuve does not hide the fact that he plans to end the series with the third part. Therefore, if everything goes according to the director’s plan, we will only receive “Messiah of Dune” and we will have to wait again for possible film adaptations of subsequent titles. And there’s a point, because the new director could finally give us a live-action version of The Mighty Worm Man, which Villeneuve clearly wasn’t brave enough to do.
An additional problem is the fact that Denis Villeneuve may and is planning to make a third part of the film, but even now, even before he starts working, he warns that it will happen at a very distant date. The director is currently working on two more titles. He will also produce a production about Cleopatra and a film adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s short story “Rendezvous with Rama”. Even with the optimistic assumption that the Canadian will be able to make one film in two years, this would mean that the third part of “Dune” will appear in cinemas no earlier than 2030.
