Patryk Vega is considered one of the most controversial directors in the Polish film industry, just like the topics he discusses in his productions. For the purposes of implementing a new project in which he takes a closer look at the character, he adopted the pseudonym Bezalel, which literally means “in the shadow of God”. He talked about the effects and background of many months of work during the first press conference organized as part of the promotion of the title.

The premiere of “Putin” is fast approaching, so on February 5, 2023, Vega appeared at the Press Center of the Polish Press Agency to reveal details about the plot. According to reports, the film will focus on his fate from his childhood to the moment he took over. – This is a full-blooded, uncompromising biography taking place over 60 years. It begins when the hero is 10 years old and abused by his stepfather, he said, adding that it will be a kind of “vivisection of the psyche” of a war criminal. There will also be difficult topics, including: Chechen wars, a terrorist attack on a school in Beslan or the war in Ukraine, as well as metaphysical and fantastic elements.
The first trailer was released online in 2023, but caused mixed reactions among viewers. According to the director, the inhabitants of Brodzinaki, a town located in the Kiev Oblast, which was almost completely destroyed by Russian armed forces, reacted differently. After the screening of fragments of “Putin”, there were apparently congratulations and words of gratitude for such a realistic portrayal of the Russian commander. – Confronting this material with people from Ukraine was extremely important for me, because these are people directly involved in the war conflict. I was very tense when I showed this film to the largest Ukrainian distributor. Fortunately, they were delighted, he argued.

does not hide the fact that “Putin” is so far the most difficult film he has had to make, and not only because of the character of Vladimir Putin. Difficulties also appeared at the post-production stage, because he wanted to use a technology similar to Depp Fake, which would allow the Russian president’s face to be placed on the actor’s face. Initially, he entrusted this task to two American studios, but neither of them was able to cope with it. He even planned to change the initial idea, but eventually found a different solution. – I was about to give up when, after a year, we managed to create our own technology, which finally gave the desired effect – claimed the director.
At this moment, the production is still shrouded in mystery and it is not known which actors graced it with their presence. did not provide a specific release date, but announced that “Putin” will probably hit theaters at the turn of March and April 2024. At the same time, he assured that it will be available not only in Ukraine and Poland, but also, among others, in Spain, Italy, France, Germany and Slovakia, because its topic is important for the entire West. As he argued, his observations show that for the Russian commander, Ukraine is not an end in itself, but only a place of battle, and his actions will undoubtedly not stop there.
