Senior women from Rybnik moved in together, although they did not know each other. “You can dance and receive guests”

Three seniors from Rybnik, although they did not know each other, moved in together as part of the cohousing program. Felicja, Fela and Maria left the single life and do not regret this decision. – I thought about it for a month, but when they brought me here, I liked it. Previously, I had a studio apartment, and here you can dance and receive guests, says Mrs. Felicja in an interview with TOK FM.

In 2022, three seniors joined the cohousing program of the city of Rybnik. After two years, it turns out that the project was a success. It brought benefits not only to the women, but also to the city. Another such apartment may appear soon in Rybnik. The seniors do not regret their decision, and in fact they cannot imagine a different life now. They talked about how they get along under one roof.

Rybnik. One apartment, three foreign seniors

Mrs. Maria and the two Felicja know perfectly well how difficult it is to live alone at an old age. Shopping, heating the apartment, or other mundane activities are difficult. Especially if your pension is barely enough to make ends meet. When they were offered to participate in the project, they immediately agreed. Their apartment was supposed to be something between their current life and a social welfare home. Seniors have their own caregiver who goes with them to the doctor, helps them deal with official matters and has access to medical records.

The apartment has 84 sq m. There are two double rooms, a kitchen, a spacious living room, a bathroom and a terrace. The place is called a paradise by seniors. – It is fun. We live in paradise, I have had an endoprosthesis, but my friends go shopping and will bring me everything I want. Duties? What responsibilities? I guess I’ll just drink coffee, said Mrs. Marysia on TOK FM. Mrs. Felicja, in turn, added that sometimes they dress up and sing, it’s fun.

Cohousing project in Rybnik. Will there be another edition?

After the success of the first edition of the project, the city is looking for another apartment that would become a home for seniors. More and more people are willing to take part in it. – If such an opportunity arises, we manage to find an apartment on the ground floor, we will start another such project – announced Anna Sowik-Złotoś, director of the OPS in Rybnik, on TOK FM.
