A musician from Krakow wants to fight for the mayor of the city. “Cracowians in first place”

The vocalist of the Krakow band Wu-Hae wants to run in the upcoming local government elections. His goal is to become mayor of the city, but as he says, he realizes that his chances are slim. – I don’t have any chance, but at least some ideas will be made public and maybe a discussion will start around them – he admitted in one of the interviews.

Marcin “Bzyk” Bąk is the vocalist of the Krakow band Wu-Hae, which he co-founded in 1999 with the other vocalist, Marcin Guzik. The band plays music on the border between crossover and hardcore and has so far released several studio albums. The band has also collaborated numerous times with legendary musicians, such as Kazik Staszewski, Grzegorz Markowski and Maciej Maleńczuk.

A famous musician from Krakow wants to become the mayor of the city. “It’s time for a president from Nowa Huta”

“After deep consideration and in response to the numerous questions that have reached me, I am announcing my candidacy for the position of mayor of Krakow. I would like to verify whether a person without strong support, without a significant campaign budget and not affiliated with a large political party can effectively take up this position. It’s time. for president from Nowa Huta. Together we can achieve it – for the good of Poland and Krakow,” we read in the musician’s entry from November.

The vocalist of the band Wu-Hae admitted in an interview that he was in the process of collecting candidates for the city council. He is looking for non-partisan people for whom local issues are important. He announced that his election campaign will be low-budget because there are no political parties or large institutions behind him. However, in an interview with the portal, he admitted that he was aware of the slim chances of becoming the president of Krakow:

I don’t have any chance, but at least some ideas will be made public and maybe a discussion will start around them. By running as a candidate, I would also like to draw attention to the electoral law, which rewards large parties and coalitions, cutting off opportunities for independent candidates who have a 0.0001% chance of winning. Besides, local government elections should not be about big politics, but about local matters. And it has been different for years, he admitted.

Marcin “Bzyk” Bąk plays on stage every day. Now he wants to show his idea for Krakow

The main slogan of the artist’s program is “Cracowians come first.” According to the candidate, the authorities should do everything to make life better for people who pay taxes in Krakow. As he assessed, it is necessary, among other things, to: improve transport, enable efficient and comfortable movement around the city.

According to Bzyk-Bąk, further actions to improve air quality are also needed; promotion of the city aimed at attracting “good quality tourists”; construction of a city cemetery for animals and a rehabilitation and treatment center for wild animals. The musician announced he was looking for savings to reduce the city’s debt. “No more nepotism and deals. ‘Yes’ to competence and diversity in city administration,” Bzyk-Bąk noted.

Marcin “Bzyk” Bąk already tried to get a mandate as a councilor from Jacek Majchrowski’s Obywatelski Kraków election committee in 2018, but to no avail. He currently lives in the Bieżanów-Prokocim district. In the past, he lived in Nowa Huta and was a supporter of its separation from the rest of Krakow. Today, this postulate is no longer valid because – as the artist explained – this area has recently changed for the better, thanks to city funding.
