The actor Alec Baldwin has pleaded not guilty this Wednesday of the manslaughter charge against him in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during the filming of ‘Rust’ in October 2021, according to US media.

The American interpreter has made his statement in a judicial document presented before a court in the First Judicial District of Santa Fe (New Mexico, USA), thus waiving his arraignmentwhich was scheduled to take place virtually on Thursday.

Baldwin was not arrested and among the conditions of his release the actor You are prohibited from possessing firearms and leaving the country. In turn, he was ordered to have limited contact with witnesses involved in the production of ‘Rust’, with whom he is prohibited from discussing the incident.

If convicted in this case, the actor would face a sentence of up to 18 months in prison. Baldwin has maintained in court that he never pulled the trigger of the prop revolver he was holding, but that it detonated byr a mechanical failure.

First he was acquitted and now he has been charged

The interpreter had been acquitted of murder charges involuntary in April of last year. However, in October, special prosecutors in the case announced that they were going to ask a grand jury to consider whether he should be criminally charged again for what happened.

Just at the beginning of October, a New Mexico judge had already ordered the film’s producers to hand over documents to prosecutors that they could potentially demonstrate that Baldwin – the film’s star and producer – was going to obtain greater profits if he delivered the project on time and under budget.

The case focuses on finding out how a real bullet appeared in the drum of the prop gun that Baldwin wielded during a rehearsal and that ended up fatally impacting Hutchins on October 20, 2021 in Santa Fe. The person in charge of the security protocol during the recording, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, is also accused of involuntary manslaughter, while the assistant of address David Halls, in charge of delivering the gun to Baldwin, accepted a misdemeanor charge in a plea deal.
