One of the topics of Tuesday’s edition of “Questions for Breakfast” was housing flipping, i.e. the act of buying real estate at a lower price with the intention of resell it for a profit. The guest of Katarzyna Dowbor and Filip Antonowicz was Elżbieta Liberda, owner of a real estate agency and author of a famous recording in which she stated that “developers are screwed” due to strict legal requirements.
Housing flipping in “Pytanie na breakfast”. The expert’s words caused a storm
The hosts of the breakfast program asked the expert to explain the complicated terminology of flipping in the simplest way possible. “A certain type of flipping, due to the fact that real estate prices are quite high, is that many slightly more advanced investors find properties with a complicated legal status, in debt or, for example, with tenants, and of course then these properties are cheaper because they need to spend some time clean them up, and then, by regulating the legal status, we create a product that can then be intended for sale,” Liberda concluded.
It was this part of the statement that the administrators of the “Miasto Jest Nasze” profile did not like. The recording shared on X’s profile was accompanied by a critical comment. “In times of housing crisis, the attorney who said ‘developers are screwed in Poland’ was invited to Pytanie na Śniadanie. She said that flipping is a wonderful tool for ‘cleaning up’ the so-called problematic properties with tenants, which then become ready-made ‘products’ “We didn’t know that TVP wanted a renaissance of wild reprivatization,” we read in the post.
Jan Śpiewak, chairman of the Free City of Warsaw association, was also interested in the matter. He wrote on the X website: “Scandal on TVP. Promoting speculation on the housing market on PUBLIC TV when millions of young people have nowhere to live. Disgusting.”
The topic of flipping was discussed in “Question for Breakfast” for the second time. Last November, the same issue was discussed with experts by Izabela Krzan and Tomasz Kammel.
